Hailing from The Grand Line itself, Emile has had his fair share of misfortune. Sea demons have long since destroyed the island he called home, family and friends scattered to the winds. Most traveled to North Blue but, stubbornly, Emile remained and traveled the harsh seas with a rag-tag band of friends and became an experienced seaman. He witnessed starvation, brutality, and loneliness throughout the early years of his life.

As a young man, he enlisted into the Marines out of a sense of justice. The law and order put forth by the military inspired trust from Emile, who came from a very chaotic childhood. His military record is good, only possessing a few blemishes involving disagreements with shipmates here and there.

Born with an above average level of proficiency in haki, Emile's potential is stifled by his lack of knowledge and proper training. Instead of realizing the true nature of his observational haki, Emile treats it as simply a sixth sense and hones it as if it were only that. This slow, ignorant manner of development has enabled the Marine to find a niche where his marksmanship skills increase dramatically alongside his observational haki prowess.
