[attr="class","cherrymain"] [attr="class","cherrytop"] [attr="class","cherrylyrics"]only after dark [attr="class","cherrybody"]On the still black expanse of sea was a pinpoint of light. White sails, white paint, golden gilding: the pearly wings of a mute swan sailing into the night, cradled in its feathers firelight and music.
The assembly of Marines had proved a sobering affair. Talks of mission planning proceeded through the days up until they had departed the fortress of Marineford, cutting through the water in the direction of Tiger Island. Captain Q, commanding officer of the Swan Dive was to be at the head of the operation. And that meant that her crew would be at the forefront of the engagement, as well. Certainly would she drill the necessary preparations and strategy into their smallcaps; but every heavy hand needed a soft touch. And only after dark.
All across the ship's deck were warm orange lanterns strung about the ropes and rigging, illuminating the festivities. Sailors stood, danced, lounged on the railings and sat haphazardly on the kegs of ale and rum brought up from the bowels of the ship. From the captain herself to the lowly chore boys they all mingled, the babel of countless conversations floating far over the water and overshadowed only by the wilting sounds of a violin. In came the crescendo, then the sudden halting of sound that followed it's finish. In the quiet, heads turned and the voices faded into silence as the pink-haired woman placed her instrument down on a nearby table, and used the bow to tap a large glass chalice filled with wine. Her attire was uniformed, but of a more festive white which was her preference. The crew likewise wore their choice of outfit.
"Any day could bring death with it," she began somberly, eyes shining like sapphires in the dark. "But when it comes we dance our last dance, and death has no choice but to watch."
A cheer.
"Let's dance, then, to celebrate living! And for those that don't return, the sweetest swan song," she finished the traditional words before draining the chalice entirely. She lifted the empty glass into the air, and with it, another cheer as the band started up again and the liquid flowed and the party aboard the Swan Dive officially began in earnest. [GoogleFont=Montserrat] [attr="class","mmk1"] | DON'T RING THE BELL, THE DEVILS HAVE EARS |
Emile listened to her words thoughtfully. Surely, life should be enjoyed and death not feared. A part of him hoped that people would celebrate his life one day the same way that they now celebrated the lives of others. His heart was truly elsewhere, though, preoccupied by musings that he had failed to untangle for himself. Once the speech was complete, Emile returned to quietly playing his harmonica. He was off on his own in the corner, one of the few in the crew who did not mingle very well with others. A half empty drink sat on the table infront of him as he played. To him, this was the quiet before the storm. He intended on enjoying it the best that he could--- losing himself to the harmonies resounding off the bulkheads. ooc | tags notes "Too many times, I have sacrificed myself for others." |

I never dreamed of such happiness as this, while I was an ugly duckling. [attr="class","jartoxpost"] [break][break]
The young chore boy didn't start to feel better about the incident at Marineford until the music began to play. He had been shaken, the demonstration of the power an Admiral wielded had been more than Kipper had expected. It had happened so fast that it was only the aftermath he could play over and over in his minds eye. The young boy had changed into his civilian clothing though only after watching the majority of the crew do the same. He had been eager to shed the skin that came with his new career path if only to step away from it for a few hours. [break][break] The familiar feeling of a flute in his hand was something Kipper hadn't realized he missed. Joining in with the others, his lips pursed tight against the lip plate and added a sweet rich whistle into the melody. It was enjoyable the way the crew played with no music, the symphony evolved naturally as each musician added whatever they could. The result was Kipper's first experience with people honestly making merry. The Pronto family didn't take well to celebration. The family tree filled with Marine officers was littered with stern, cold faces that had become a permanent fixture. Kip could count on one hand how many times he had seen his father smile. As the music built up to it's climax the boy had even found himself dancing, his feet shuffling along even his frame swaying with the toxic effect of the music. It was only when the music ended that Kip had realized, the familiar sounds of the waves meeting the ship overtaking the music it had been adding to. The boy found himself straightening his stance as the attention went to the Captain. Kip watched with bright eyes as his C.O. addressed the crew in the midst of their celebration. Her words were inspiring, something Kip was realizing was a regular feature of his new Captain. His voice carried over with those of his new family he hardly knew as cheers swept the ship. [break][break] When the music picked back up Kipper didn't join back in. He moved along the edge of the space where the crew danced. He looked at each person's face as he walked by. Each face he studied and stored in his memory figuring it would come in handy, he would be sure to get their names in turn. The boy made his way over to where the ale kegs had been stood. A group of the chore boys were huddled back behind the kegs sneaking some of the brew into their own mugs. Kip lifted his own mug as he passed them, making his way for the fresh waterspout that came up from below deck. As he replenished his drink of fresh water from the reserves he saw a somber looking man playing a harmonica off in the corner by himself.

[attr="class","smdbody3"] There was nothing more one could possibly want for on the open waters. Joyous song filled the night air, drink of the greatest quality filled every chalice to the brim and there wasn't a face in the crowd that didn't bear a smile. Amid the exciting festivities was the golden-maned lieutenant of the Swan Dive perched at his weapon of choice - the piano. His pearly gloved digits danced like a ballerina over the keys below his hands. The ebony instrument was but an extension of his being, far less threatening than his sword but just as deadly. Percy played the most lightening of party tunes for all in attendance, meshing with the sounds of his fellow crewmates. It wasn't until his lady's words of encouragement chimed above all else that the party really grew wild. Drinks careened into the air as dancing sailors couldn't contain their cups. Bodies fumbled and tussled like beasts, crashing into each other in drunken stupors of joy as the music picked up ever more. The lieutenant glanced up from his station ever so often to revel in the madness of the night. His own face was a twisted mess of happiness and excitement, bouts of heavy laughter escaping his lips as crewmates began to crowd around his station. Such was a night for happiness as the lady's words rang truer than anything said during the assembly. They could well have been on their way to their deaths so tonight was a night for partying. | [attr="class","smdlyrics3"] strike [attr="class","mdlyric3"]me down [attr="class","giveitlyric3"]give it everything you've got |

[GoogleFont=Montserrat] [attr="class","mmk1"] | WALLS ARE MEANT TO BE TORN DOWN |
Emile played through a couple of songs without much rest, adding subtle touches to enhance the sounds of other instruments. After a particularly long piece, however, the male was distracted by a sharp pain from his leg. The male hunched over as he grasped at the limb, gritting his teeth. Memories of his recent journey to a certain deadly island with savage slavers flooded the marine's mind for a moment before the sights and sounds of the night returned. As he composed himself, Emile noticed that he was being stared at by a shipmate. The male returned the stare wordlessly, sitting there with harmonica dangling from the fingers of his left hand. ooc | tags notes "If I can't make it in the end, then atleast I didn't settle for an ordinary life." |

She was a fidgety mess the entire time. However, her hands trembled with sheer bliss and excitement as she was looking forward to the work that was to be done. It was a chance to get her hands dirty and bloodied once again. She felt as if it had been far too long since she'd last tasted the fear emanating from anyone. Kipper was fun, but for now she couldn't really have her way. However, with the case of revolutionaries everything was fair game. She'd casually sigh and slowly stroke her palms against each other as she found herself a secluded place within the Swan Dive. She would listen in on the jovial speech and subsequent music coming from the ship's crew. Not many knew of her side orders, it was a perfect predicament to help with her anonymity within even her own crew. Everyone had a task, and hers suited her likings much better than what would be left for her to do. She enjoyed the calming music being produced by everyones various instruments. Ana's own musical forte came through her songbird voice. However, with such anticipation and blood rushing deep within her veins, she couldn't possibly desire to find the harmony to join in with everyone else. Her mind remained focused on the horizon, a early focus at that.
